Using Components

Components are pre-built modules that let you add specific functionality to your ads or HTML documents. Each component has component-specific properties, and components can be controlled using events in the Events dialog. Here is the list of core components that come pre-set in Google Web Designer.

Using Custom Components

Using Custom Components

In addition to the built-in components, Google Web Designer supports custom components. Custom components extend the component and event environments to add functionality to ads created in Google Web Designer. Some custom components are available here. Learn how to build a custom component.

Install Custom Component

To install a Custom Component:

1. Download a custom component as a .ZIP file
2. In GWD, click the "+" button at the bottom of the components panel
3. In the dialog, select the .ZIP file and click "Open"

The custom component will appear at the bottom of the components list.

Remove Custom Component

To remove a Custom Component:

1. Select the component in the components panel
2. Click the "delete" button at the bottom of the panel

Only custom components can be removed from the components panel.

Create an ad from a Template

Templates are pre-made ads in popular sizes, using popular styles and features. By replacing the images and other assets you can quickly create a useful, working ad. Check out the Template Database. Or, learn how to Create a custom Template.

  1. Select New from template from the File menu. This opens the Template gallery.
  2. Optionally sort and filter your template options
  3. Hover over the template you want to use, and click the "use" button
  4. Name your new file (required)
  5. Optionally change the location where the file will be saved. You can either enter the path to the location, or click the folder icon to navigate to the location you want to use.
  6. For templates that have multiple sizes, choose the appropriate ad size from the dimensions drop down menu
  7. Click 'OK'
